Wedding.

I’m not getting married (ever. for the rest of my life. ad infinitum. e pluribus unum. trololololo.) but my ace homegirl MarshmellowFluffStuff is. Part of my duties as a bridesmaid is to scour the internet and be annoyed by fucking hipsters in love.  Join me!

Ah, who am I kidding? I love love! It warms the cockles of my tiny cold heart to see people come together in a tradition as old as time (I guess – I’m not one for geography). To stand before friends, family and  Dads’ work buddies declaring that to the best of their ability, for the rest of their lives, they will protect someone else’s soft spot. It thrills me. And gives me hope.  Surely there’s an abundance of love in the universe.  And if there’s an abundance, there’s gotta be some for me, yes? Yes!

Love.

Aunt Marie

My Aunt Marie died yesterday. She was old and frail.  She lay in a hospice bed, being kept comfortable as her body slowly and willfully failed her.

I visited her last Saturday.  I stroked her hands and smoothed back her hair.

I put a bible in my car when I got home so I could read it to her this weekend.

I wasn’t a good niece but she loved me anyway.

Courtney.

I have known Courtney for longer than I have not and I have loved her for longer than I ever thought I could love anyone. We are years upon years of commentary and help and shared memories and the high-and-low-country-of-emotion.  She introduced me to Danzig and the Dead Milkmen and Kids in the Hall and The Young Ones and Absolutely Fabulous and Marie Callender’s Pies and fearlessness in the face of authority.

Happy Birthday, Gus. The best is yet to come…
